I am more prudent with trades

I waited a few days, and it reached a level that feels more comfortable

with an exit price that is also more comfortable too

when i saw the win loss ratio, it was not 1 to 4. but i set the limit, and it filled. price the win per contract I saw was $45, but the trade filled at $55

another note, for spread, it seems better to enter when it reaches the 3rd line, not the 1st of 2nd line (200 and 150 sma).

the exit price is also below the 5th line, so the price will have to cross 2 sma support lines

quarter review

 overall, profit of US$884 was made for 2024 Q3 earnings. 

bet size was $300 each. will increase it to US$500 next quarter

there was 2 bets I should have lost. NFLX and MSFT below

because the price touched my exit price. but I did not close it, as it happened late in the night

so it may be a good thing not to set stop loss. look at it the next day, if the price has go to exit price or worse, just close it.

i hope to increase my bets fast

hopefully US$1k per bet next year

it will not be so scary if I just do less trades. If I only have 1 trade, and lose $1.5k, then my account can still survive.

i plan to withdraw money to sustain my spend.

If i trade US$500 per bet, then I can redraw $500 per quarter.

for NFLX, it is interesting. Initially was looking at $595. it turns out $590 strike price had better returns

GOOGL spread

 

this time I went for 56 days

instead of around 45 days

the strike price is better. for 56 days, the strike is $155. for 45 days, it is $160.

and also longer contract does not seem to matter much.

because usually I can only trade spreads at the start of earnings season

when companies have reported

when closer to the next earnings season, there are less opportunity

as I need longer contracts to get better strike price.

so, getting a better strike price seems better than having a shorter contract period

spread lessons

some heavy losses

learned 2 things there were different from adam khoos method :

for stocks the spiked up strongly after a news, that was in a bullish trend, i used spread to bet that they will no longer rise anymore. it does not seem to be a good strategy

i bet spreads with too little days days to expiry. it should be closer to 45 days. now i know for spreads, it is more suitable to be used within 45 days after earnings calls. after that, it might be too close to the next earnings call. longer contracts are essential, as it has a bigger distance between the current price and strike price.

TSLA spread

 made a $300 bet that TSLA rally should run out of steam

should not go to the price of $260

earnings date is on 23 Jul, so looked for earlier expiry of 19 Jul

Also did not get delta of 0.3 and below

as I felt $260 strike price is good

and was also unable to get 1 to 4 win loss ratio if I go for lower delta

BA spread

 

entered a spread to bet it will not go beyond $195

only put in $100 bet instead of $300

actually I should not enter it, as the delta was 3.4

I should wait for delta of 3 and below, with win loss ratio of 1 to 4.

but since it is $100, I will just use it as a lesson for the future

DIS spread

 first time buying so many contracts of a spread, 15 of them, feels a bit uneasy

exit price is $97, which is just 2 percent away

overall, it is an uptrend, and a dip of 2% today

I am betting that it will not keep rising til $205 in 29 days

I wanted even longer expiry at 36 days

I hope to accelerate the bet size

cause it spread is such a gd strat

grab consideration

 just had a thought few days ago

thought that tsla will disrupt grab

sold 500 (to buy 10 TSLA), left with 2k

but just realized that i should keep grab

cause the disruption may not happen

I also use spread when I feel the price has run too much

there is a likelihood price will try to adjust closer back to the moving average

i also had some realization that when tsla fsd comes alive

and they are in the position to gain from SEA growth

Weird thing about expiry periods

 For quite some time 

I am unable to trade

as the premium from selling spreads seem bad

unable to get 1 to 4 profits vs loss

usually I look at around 45 days to expiry

as advised by Adam Khoo

and supposedly, the premium should be better

still I do not get the 1 to 4 profit to loss ratio

but today I tried to look at 20 days to expiry instead

surprisingly, the premiums are even better than 42 days away

I am also able to enter at a lower delta, around 0.2

and also get a better strike price ($150)

I am also increasing my wagers from $100 to $200 from now onwards

will also look at other expiry dates before 45 days, especially those at regular intervals

I closed it and saw my cash account decrease by $159

but also, I got premium of $72 previously

so the loss is actually not as much as I thought, at 159 - 72 = $87

realized it is the only stock that does not have a rounded number to 10

it has also stayed low at 170+ for some time

i think it may be quite a bottom, where there are most negative sentiments
